When you start a new project, you often need to open a new document or set aside an afternoon or clear the table.

There’s something about clearing space, whether that’s electronic, calendar, or physical space. You’re telling yourself that something new is about to begin. Clearing space can almost be a sacred moment.

And sometimes that feels hard to do. We are drowning to the point that we feel like we failed our to-do list every day, let alone have the ability to clear space.

In my mind, the real tragedy is when you never quite do the next thing you are called to do because you can’t find the time, space, or energy to do it.
Clearing space requires a mindset shift and a new set of skills that will launch us into our Next Big Thing. You’ll need to figure out what’s important, how to stop doing what’s not important, and how to not fill the space you create with other busywork so you actually get started on your Next Big Thing.
