Raisins: A Lenten Tale of Death and Rebirth

I was recently on my way to the grocery store, because my mom is visiting soon and I’m was going get some of her favorite things.

One of those is this cereal that has raisins and dates and nuts. It reminded me of something I learned recently about raisins. They were born of adversity on some level. Every raisin is born of adversity since it’s a dried grape.

The entire crop came about because in 1870 something, all of the grapes dried up. It was this major problem in Fresno, California.

Somebody was like, “Why don’t we sell the dried up grapes?”

Thus raisins were discovered.

Now it’s not just like, “Oh, they make raisins.” They make nearly all the raisins.

In the music man, when they sing the Wells Fargo song and they’re like, “I hope I get my raisins from Fresno.” It’s true. All the raisins do come from Fresno.

Now it’s this great thing that came about because of their drought.

When something dries up, whether it’s a grape or an entire crop, or something else that you created, take time to mourn it and then figure out if something else can be created out of it.

They might be even better in the long run.
