I don’t usually want a big fuss on my birthday, but this year I am ALL ABOUT IT. (Pictured: my actual Birth Day.)
This year, my birthday feels well-timed with post-vaccination life for my friends and family. I’m doing a series of small gatherings of friends so that no one gets nervous about a bigger celebration.
I also have a practice of setting new goals on my birthday. After all, it is my own personal New Year. Even a few weeks ago, the future felt more uncertain, but now it feels like I know what’s coming. Finally, I can picture what’s next, and can plan for it.
Sharing in case it’s helpful, here are three questions I’ll be asking myself today:
1. What are the blessings of this past year? (Yes, there are some, even in pandemic life.)
2. What has become unhealthy and needs to end its influence in my life? (Habits, patterns, possessions, etc.)
3. What do I hope for this next chapter?
What are your birthday traditions?
