Take it from The Unsinkable Molly Brown: You don’t need to know your entire calling before you take the next step. ⁣

We all know Molly Brown as the outspoken woman who survived the sinking of the Titanic, and advocated for the wives and widows upon arrival in New York. She was so crazy qualified for that moment, which she never could have planned. She just kept following her calling until it added up into something extraordinary that could help a lot of people and become a Broadway musical. ⁣

Molly Brown (who went by Margaret her whole life … ) started learning European languages long before her husband struck gold in the Colorado mountains. She was very far away from culture of any kind, but she followed her curiosity and learned the languages not knowing if they could ever afford to go to Europe. ⁣

Molly Brown was also active in campaigning for womens’ right to vote, which gave her experience in public speaking and connections to get things done. ⁣
⁣
So here’s the thing: She was doing good, and was looking for opportunities to do more good. It was already a good life. It just so happens that the skills she’d already gained made her uniquely qualified to advocate for European women who spoke no English as they arrived in New York as brand new widows. You might even say she was called.⁣

Molly Brown just kept following her curiosity and getting involved in causes about which she cared, not knowing how those things would suddenly overlap into something extraordinary. ⁣
⁣
So when you get overwhelmed that you need to know your calling but you just don’t see it in bright flashing lights, just do the next right thing. It’s all preparing you for whatever’s after that. ⁣
