Some things are more joyful when they are limited. That seems to be the reasoning behind people who are waiting to decorate. Sometimes I’m in that camp.
But this year, to quote Jerry Herman in the musical Mame, “We need a little Christmas. Right this very minute.”
If there’s anything we need in the middle of a pandemic, it’s extra twinkle lights and a few upbeat tunes.
Another part of the reason my decorations are up is that I’ve been working on my Advent / Christmas video devotion series. It’s the 4th year I’ve created daily videos from the first Sunday of Advent through Epiphany. You can sign up here to get a daily email with a loosely-lectionary based Bible verse, a keyword, and a link to an encouraging or thought-provoking video that spans the wisdom of Brene Brown, Bishop Michael Curry, and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
And just because we need to take it to the next level in 2020, I made it into a totally optional Bingo game. Once you sign up, you can download the Bingo card. Once you have 4 in a row, you win access to “The Nice Person’s Guide to Saying No: Holiday Edition.”
