We’re in a season of realizing what stories have been left out of the cultural narrative. I could not be more excited about it.
My mom and I have a hobby of seeking out historical sites dedicated to women’s stories. Spoiler alert: there aren’t many of them.
Today, it feels like many of us will be seeking to learn more about the Tulsa Massacre on the 100th anniversary of this major event that seems to have been left out of most of our schoolbooks.
For the first time, Hollywood nominated two women for Best Director, which basically means Best Storyteller. They were the sixth and seventh nominees ever, and the first woman of color. May that be a level playing field very soon.
I’m also highlighting stories about women of color this summer in VBS for Backyards. It’s five entire lessons on Female Bible Friends like Naomi and Ruth, Mary and Martha, that sort of thing.
However you do it, I hope that you will seek to listen, learn, and tell the stories of a wider group of people.
