I deeply prefer live entertainment. It can be watching people at the top of their game, witnessing a child’s first try, or being in the show. I love it all. I love the shared experience in real time. I love feeling the connection with a group of strangers.
Of course this was a bit of a problem when we couldn’t gather. I remember a day in the summer of 2020 on my daily walk. I heard an instrument being played in the courtyard of a church. (Pictured last in this series.) One instrument, but it was everything. It reminded me how long it had been since I’d heard live music. A small crowd gathered on the sidewalk and for a moment, we all got to experience again that feeling of being in a group who was all feeling an emotion together.
Now every performance, big or small, is a treat. Not everything is in full swing yet in New York, but each performance is a triumph of the human spirit (with a big assist from science.) A triumph that is shared between souls. Humans are meant to be in community, and this is one of the most powerful ways. So thankful.
