Ballet barre is a sort of liturgy for me. It follows a structure that I’ve known since I was a small child, yet I still tune in to have someone else lead me through it, even in the kitchen. Do you have a structured activity that feels almost spiritual?

It’s not about turning off my brain and just following directions. It’s about freeing my brain to think about how each exercise applies to me today, knowing someone else is tending to the structure. I don’t need to make sure we did all of the exercises or hit each muscle group, someone else is doing that for me.

It’s also about each particular teacher giving their variation on the structure, and offering corrections and reminders for the exercises from their vantage point.⁣ Over time, your body, mind, and spirit are shaped into a beautiful dance.

Of course I could do barre on my own. I’ve done it a few times. It’s not as good. I just do the easy parts that I love instead of the full barre that will actually challenge me to improve.⁣

Coaching is a bit like that. As a coach, I tend to a structure, asking questions about various areas and offering insights, freeing up my clients to really think about their lives and how to improve an area or make a large change. ⁣

I gently challenge them to go beyond the easy parts they love in order to do the parts that will challenge them and make a measurable improvement to their lives. One of my clients recently said that I was “appropriately challenging.” I love that. ⁣

I coach ministry professionals, church adjacent business owners, and content creators such as writers. If you are ready for something “appropriately challenging” with a bit of structure that frees you up to think more deeply about how to improve in a systematic way, let’s talk. I have openings for one-on-one and group coaching coming up this month.⁣

Just like ballet, change in life can happen slowly, and then one day it all just comes together into a beautiful dance. Follow the link in my bio to set up a free, no-pressure conversation about the changes you’d like to see in your life. ⁣
