I’ll be honest: the protests and demonstrations have been more difficult for me than the pandemic ever was. It’s hitting me in a much more personal way. I could go into it, but this is not about me.
I’m doing some things to be part of the solution, but you don’t need a list from some random white woman about what I’m doing. There are plenty of people more qualified than me making lists of things to do and watch and listen to and discuss. Please, find people you trust and follow them. Do things. Do all the things as you are able. Because it’s going to take all of us together.
What I can offer to the conversation right now is this: find a way to keep at it without looking away. When it all gets overwhelming but I know I need to stay engaged in this important work, I walk around the neighborhood taking photos of flowers while listening to “White Fragility” by Robin DiAngelo on Audible.
I now have a LOT of photos of the flowers in my neighborhood.
The beauty somehow balances the ugliness so I can continue to face it. I hope to combine my tiny little contributions with everyone else’s contributions to make tomorrow more beautiful for everyone.
