Just wrapped another online coaching group. One of the things on which we reflected was our personal tendencies when confronted with a new opportunity.
I research a little, but once I’m convinced that it will move me toward my goals I take action, and then learn more as I go. Another person was happy dwelling in the world of ideas, only taking action when necessary. One person described himself as generally cautious in all ways, but then told us about a fun new opportunity this summer.
This weekend, I jumped into something new by doing the Women’s Weekend Film Challenge. I was on a team of 30 people and we made a 10-minute short film in 78 hours. I was in a cast of four with an entirely female crew.
It was a huge project, but as soon as I heard about it, I knew I wanted to participate. I believe strongly in women telling women’s stories, and currently less than 20% of people behind the camera in all of film and TV are female. I wanted to be part of a story told entirely by women, from the producer to the director to the writers to the crew all the way through the composer and editor.
What is your tendency? Jump in, research first, think as much as possible, overall cautious, or something else entirely?
