It's also one of the primary outreach tools we have available to us. So how do we move online?
In this hour together, explore 5 questions for congregations to consider when creating VBS this summer, and one done-for-you option.
During this hour, we will:
- Celebrate what we love about VBS as we look forward to the next chapter.
- Explore 5 strategic questions congregations can be asking as they plan for 2020.
- Think more broadly about the goals of VBS: not just how to move an exisitng program online, but how to embrace at-home, online, at church, or hybrid formats.
- Offer a structure for the conversation at your next (online) children's ministry meeting so everyone is on board.
- Learn about one done-for-you option for online-offline VBS.
Who is leading the discussion?
Hi! I'm Dawn Trautman and I'll be your leader. I first attended VBS at Faith Lutheran Church in Massillon, Ohio and continued through being a small group helper and finally leader at churches in Minnesota, North Dakota, New York City, and throughout the Rocky Mountains.
I continued to hone my VBS skills at Sky Ranch Lutheran Camp, Youth Encounter, Luther Seminary (where I got a Masters in Youth and Family Ministry), and at rural, suburban, and urban churches over the years. I have now lead more than 50 weeks of VBS across four time zones.
In between all that, I also earned a second Masters in Organizational Psychology from New York University, built a career as a professional actor, and became nationally board certified as a life coach. I am now the Creative Director of the MainStage team at the ELCA Extravaganza and run my own business as a Lutheran Life Coach, which I have done for a fifteen years.
I coach ministry leaders to think about their journey as a leader, the impact it has on their context, and their next steps to truly live their calling. Together we create regular opportunities to pause and think about the big picture, which has been especially relevant as the entire ministry landscape changed this spring.
I have had the opportunity to have strategic conversations with leaders at these and other institutions.
